What is Artificial Intelligence?

Simply put Artificial Intelligence is where machines can do what humans can do. We are not yet there yet, because currently machines do not have a sense of self awareness that humans have.

Machine Learning is a sub-field of Artificial intelligence which basically involves finding, classifying, grouping and clustering patterns. Unlike humans, Machines see data points and vector graphics, so we need algorithms to train them for this purpose.

Algorithms are advanced mathematical constructs like statistics and calculus that can be used to define the data points and vectors that aid Artificial Intelligence design.

Ginni Rometty, the CEO of IBM coined the term “Augmented Intelligence” which means helping people and machines work together to create knowledge from data that enhances human expertise.
For example, AI systems that can help doctors diagnose disease faster and more efficiently.

While the world has not yet realised Artificial Intelligence that can completely take over human tasks, we have made great strides in building systems that compliment human efforts especially in areas that computers out perform humans. This has left us free to take on more strategic and creative tasks that Artificial Intelligence is incapable of performing.
